Topic: Waiting on God
Focus: Waiting with God
Psalm 62:1-2 (NKJV)a Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Defense; I shall not be greatly moved.
You can’t ‘wait on God’ while you’re running after every other thing that catches your attention. When you are scattered in too many directions, your strength is reduced. You aren’t able to give yourself fully to God.
The Lord, Himself is really all you need. He is the One who has saved you from destruction. He put your feet on a Rock. He put your feet on ‘Himself’. When the ground beneath you was giving way—He put Himself under you so you wouldn’t have to fall.
Sometimes you wish He would give you more answers. There are many things you don’t understand that you wish you could. He knows that. He sees the amount of time you spend fretting and fearing about things you are dreading. These may be things you are afraid of, or things you don’t want to face.
It’s important during this time that you continue to make positive statements about God, His faithfulness, and what He has done for you. You may not have the liberty to say things out loud as much as you would like to, but you can meditate on the Lord and His goodness. You can train your mind to stay focused on the One who has promised to never leave you or forsake you. You can ‘silently wait’ when you are unable to speak.
In the past, you put your trust in many other things that failed. Putting your trust in the Lord was a step in the right direction. You needed answers and He has them.

NOW, YOU CAN LISTEN AND/OR READ!

When you are capable of silently waiting for the Lord, He becomes everything you need. When you need rescuing—He is there for you. In times of trouble, He shows you how to walk and what to do. It touches the heart of God when He sees a child of His silently bearing their trials with the knowledge that God Almighty is on their side.
You can live with the assurance of your Heavenly Father’s attentiveness. Remember, it was His choice to have you think of Him as your Father. He wanted you to have the knowledge that He would always be there for you—to defend you and strengthen you in times of weakness. But just like a small child who runs after one thing and then another, He wants you to pull your attention away from some things that take you away from Him.
A little child doesn’t always know what it needs. If it feels uncomfortable for some reason, it cries. The parent either knows what the child needs, or will do their best to figure out what the problem is, because a loving parent takes delight in knowing their child’s needs have been met. Your Father in heaven wants to be the one who meets all of your needs.
Although you sometimes seek comfort from other sources—the Lord is all you need. The Spirit of God is the source of all comfort. Why would you look for comfort elsewhere, when you can have perfect comfort from the Comforter? Stay close enough to the Lord that you can feel the effects and power of that comfort.
He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is all you need. You may feel as though you don’t know how to receive some of the things He offers you. Tell Him. Tell Him you don’t know how to receive Him in the way He desires to give Himself to you. He is so willing to help you learn more about Him and show you how to grow in the right way—so ask Him. It’s not too late.
Revisiting the scripture, Psalm 62:1, the first line says, ‘Truly my soul silently waits for God…’ On first impression, those words might carry with them a feeling of loneliness—as though you are ‘here’ and He is ‘there’, and that there is this long distance and lapse of time between you and Him. However, waiting on God, in this sense is not a solitary act, for He is with you as you wait. You are silently waiting, but you are not alone. You have the pleasure of His company. In this time of waiting you are definitely not waiting all by yourself.
There is no reason for you to defend yourself to those who have failed you…or to those who you think see you as a failure. You can just release all of that to the Lord. He will provide any defense you need. You will make better progress in your recovery, if you stop trying to offer your own defense. If the Lord was not available to you right now, He would not have named Himself as your defender.
Declaration: I will find new strength by knowing the Lord waits with me. As I am silent before Him, I will be able to hear His voice instead of my own. I will receive all I need from Him and I will not be moved by my circumstances. He will not leave me alone or fail me. He is all I need.
